Michael J. Chmell

Although some may consider me a man of few words, I like to let my patients do all the talking. I was always pretty quiet as a kid. I guess I was just too busy figuring out ways to fix things, so I didn't seem to talk much. Just my nature. I really like solving problems and getting things to work like they were supposed to.

So naturally I though something like engineering would probably be the most logical career for me to pursue, until my older brother graduated from medical school. He was going to be an orthopedic surgeon. I didn't know what that meant, but he told me he was going to help fix people. Right then, I knew exactly what I wanted to do with my life! So I studied hard all through high school and college, and then medical school. To specialize my skill, I spent an extra year after my residency in fellowship training for joint replacement at Harvard University. Then, finally, I started practicing as an orthopedic surgeon, as well.

Today, I treat primarily knee patients here at Rockford Orthopedic Associates. It gives me a great deal of satisfaction knowing that I've helped someone return to a healthy, normal and active lifestyle. Helping people is just about the most rewarding thing I can think of. What more can I say?
